Conversations with her tend to get complicated and difficult, so it's been easier to avoid it. Not the responsible thing to do, but he's shrugged off that title as best he can. ]

Yeeeep, despite some stuff I've heard about Ashti. But, someone has to keep protecting Olympia for as long as they can.

[ Honestly, at first, he had. Overwatch had wanted Balderich. He had gotten Balder killed. It was his fault that the wrong Crusader ended up in the team. At the start, he had done far too much trying to prove that he could be half the man his old commander had been. He had felt such guilt for it. And sorrow as well, deep painful sadness. He had buried himself in the mission and in proving that he was remotely worthy of his promise to a dying man. But that was years ago. He's had many years to prove that he was worthy of his own, as Reinhardt and not 'Balderich's unwanted replacement'.

He wants them safe and healthy and cared for. He lost them once. He can't always be there to shield them, so in this gift, he can give them something useful that will help them. Back during the Crisis, it had been common for even highly-ranked, experienced soldiers to get gunned down. Fighting an omnic force was a different story from fighting an army of humans, and the reason their original strike team had worked is because they'd learned the right strategies. ]
